People of color to connect at downtown event

Columbus-The Stonewall Columbus People of Color Council is gearing up for its annual event, Making the Connection II.

More than 100 people attended last year, and more are expected this time around. The event, which offers food, entertainment, prizes and information sharing is set for Sunday December 5 from 7 to 11 p.m. in the YWCA ballroom, at 65 S. Fourth St.

Making the Connection II will offer an exciting and diverse slate of entertainers. Singer Mary Daniels

"We're excited because Making the Connection II promises to be even bigger and better than last year," said event cochair Pamela Tho-

The event aims to bring together people of all colors in the GLBT community for networking, socializing and resource sharing. Several non-profits and local businesses will be on hand to share information on their services. "It's not too late

favorites, and we can count on DeQawn for businesses and non-profits to 'make Henson's performance to be a powerful rhythm and blues, and gospel mix. Pat Moss will be on hand with original poetry and everybody will be dancing to the sweet mixes of deejay Chynia Dickerson. Expect lots of tasty hors d'oeuvres and door prizes, too. All that for a suggested donation of $5.

Deadlines have passed, but there is still limited space available until December 1, or until space runs out. Businesses can sponsor for $50. This includes display

space at the event, recognition in the event program, in event announcements and in the Stonewall Journal.

Non-profits are also encouraged to reserve display space for the event free of charge. (Of course, donations and raffle prize contributions will be accepted).

"We hope everyone in the community will come out for this evening," said Thomas, "to connect with old friends, and to make new ones."

Week of events will benefit three AIDS organizations

Columbus--A Light in the Night IV, a week of events in area clubs and restuarants to benefit three AIDS service organizations, is set to begin this Sunday, November 28.

A Light in the Night, produced by V.V. Productions, will benefit the Ohio AIDS Coalition, the AIDS Service Connection and Pater-Noster House.

Many changes geared to make this year the best yet include the addition of the PaterNoster House for the first time as a recipient of this benefit.

A Light in the Night, started in 1996 by Joseph A. Stefanko, has grown from a oneday event to an eight-day event. In those three years A Light in the Night has raised over five thousand dollars for the Ohio AIDS Coalition and the AIDS Service Connection.

This year's benefit will begin on Sunday November 28, and will run through Sunday December 5. Participating businesses include Tradewinds II, AWOL, No Attitude Bar and Grille, Utopia, Remo's, Tremont II, Pyramid, South Bend, Summit Station, Revenge Karaoke and Club Columbus.

There will be a wide variety of ways these businesses will raise donations. There will be drag shows, a black-out party, karaoke,

dinners, a bachelor auction, and T-shirt sale.

An actual listing of each business' participation can be found on posters at each location. Be sure to check out at least one of these great nights during this festive time of year. It is our chance as a community to make a direct contribution to organizations that have helped many people dealing with AIDS.

For more information or to become a part of A Light in the Night IV, contact Joseph A. Stefanko at 614-258-4955 or any of the participating businesses for more information or to make direct donations.
